As we age, the repeated movement of our facial muscles can cause wrinkles to be more visible both when in motion and at rest. Anti-wrinkle injections offer a simple, safe, and effective way to reduce the appearance of these lines, making you look and feel younger.

During an anti-wrinkle treatment, tiny doses of medically approved botulinum toxin injected just under the skin and into your muscles. This relaxes the muscles responsible for developing facial lines and results in temporary improvements in the appearance of lines. They are particularly effective at seeing the visible improvement of lines between and around the eyes, such as crow’s feet and frown lines.

Treatment

At the Aesthetic Room, we use Botox Allergan, prescribed by our in-house medical prescriber. This brand was the first to be licensed for cosmetic use and is used in the NHS for a variety of medical concerns including neuromuscular disorders and migraines.

Although many brands have tried to replicate its successful formula, Allergan is the only Botox that has been thoroughly researched, tested, and studied.

Our Botox Allergan treatments address the following facial concerns.

Process

Assessment

Prior to treatment, a thorough consultation takes place to discuss your motivations and medical history before a medical prescriber arranges a medical prescription.

You’ll have the opportunity to ask any questions and there is a cooling-off period to consider all the information and make an educated decision about whether to proceed. You’ll then sign a pre-treatment consent form and Bryony will examine the area to determine the appropriate injection sites and dosages for optimum results.

Treatment

Treatments usually take from 10 to 30 minutes. Treatments take place with you lying on a couch before the areas for treatment are cleaned and disinfected. Bryony will examine the muscles, plan the treatment, mark out the treatment areas and then inject the required dose into the targeted muscles.

Results

Effects aren’t instant and are typically seen 10-14 days after treatment. Depending on the strength of your facial muscles and your own individual response, results may take longer.
Bryony offers face-to-face review appointments 2 weeks after treatment and if required, an additional dose may be administered at this point. The severity of the lines is expected to be reduced for up to 3-6 months.

Recovery

Immediately afterwards you may have small, raised bumps on the skin where the toxin has been injected, but these should resolve in under an hour. You may also experience bruising. Most people require no downtime following these procedures and can return to work and normal activities the same day. Full information on aftercare is provided, and Bryony is always available to answer any questions during the healing process.

Is it Safe?

Botox and other anti-wrinkle treatments are safe when administered by a qualified and experienced practitioner such as Bryony. They are an FDA-approved treatment that uses doses of a toxin with proven benefits when used in tiny amounts. Whilst used to cosmetically reduce the signs of ageing, Botox is also used to treat several medical treatments such as excessive sweating, eyes squints and bladder dysfunctions.

How Long Does It Last?

Botulinum toxin injections don’t cause permanent changes to the muscle and results usually last around three months. For some clients, it can be as long as 6 months and for others, the effects may wear off after 8 weeks. Whilst changes to the muscle aren’t permanent, the changes it has on skin improvements can be long-lasting. To maintain a youthful appearance and prevent additional signs of ageing you should speak to Bryony as soon as you notice wrinkles and fine lines reappearing. Typically, clients return for treatment after three to six months.

What Should I Do Before and After a Treatment?

Unless medically necessary, avoid taking aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen in the week leading up to your appointment. Staying hydrated will keep your skin in prime condition, so drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol. And avoid using any retinol treatment for two days before treatment.

Following your anti-wrinkle treatment follow a similar regime to your pre-treatment plan:

Avoid alcohol for 48 hours.
Unless medically necessary avoid blood thinners for 24 hours
Wait 48 hours to begin using retinol products.
To avoid excessive sweating, raised blood pressure and bruising, wait 24 hours to exercise.
Avoid UV exposure, saunas and steam rooms for 48 hours.
